The Butcher’s Bill Has Arrived

They say that truth is the first casualty of war. But looking at the charred remains of a primary school in Hormozgan, Iran, it seems the first casualties were actually 100 children.

As of this morning, the "official" death count in this reckless American adventure has surpassed 700. And while the administration takes a victory lap over the assassination of Ayatollah Khamenei, the rest of the world is watching the inevitable blowback we warned about. The fire has already jumped the firebreak. Our embassy in Riyadh has been hit. American bases in Bahrain are targeted. The Strait of Hormuz is closing, choking off the global economy.

This isn't strategy; it’s arson.

General George Marshall understood that you cannot build security on a foundation of corpses. Yet, here we are, watching President Trump turn the Middle East into a parking lot while his surrogates on television talk about "friendly takeovers" of Cuba. Friendly? Tell that to the families in Havana facing a fuel blockade. It is the same delusional arrogance that leads a man to think he can bomb a country into submission while simultaneously starving another one into friendship.

And while the President plays Risk with live ammunition abroad, his administration is dismantling the machinery of democracy at home. Look at the Department of Education. Secretary Linda McMahon is currently being sued for hiding records on discrimination in our schools. They are scrubbing the evidence of their own bigotry while the world burns.

Even worse, reports now indicate this administration plans to let Artificial Intelligence write federal regulations. You heard that right. We are handing the keys of the regulatory state, the laws that protect your air, your water, and your bank account, over to an algorithm. It is the ultimate abdication of leadership. We have a Commander-in-Chief who is too busy tweeting threats to read a briefing book, so he’s outsourcing the job of governing to a chatbot.

The disconnect is nauseating. In Greenland, climate change is turning ice into mud, destroying indigenous livelihoods. In the UK, grocery inflation is spiking because of this war, starving working families. And in Washington? The markets are "see-sawing" while the vultures figure out how to profit from the carnage.

We are witnessing the wholesale looting of the American soul. We are killing children in Iran to "protect" freedom, while stripping civil rights from students in America to "protect" feelings.

Mr. President, you have managed to unite the world in one thing: a terrifying realization that there is no adult in the room. You have broken the Middle East. You are breaking the government. And if you think the American people are going to thank you for the privilege of paying for this disaster with their blood and treasure, you are in for a rude awakening.

The era of patience has ended.
