The War Will Be Automated

Good evening, America. I hope you’re enjoying your dinner. The Dow Jones rebounded today, so the experts on CNBC are telling us everything is fine. The panic is over. The "correction" is correcting.

But while you check your 401(k) and breathe a sigh of relief, I want you to think about what is happening right now, in the dark, on the other side of the world. Because the "American Century" has officially been replaced by the "Algorithmic Minute."

We learned this afternoon that the Pentagon isn't just bombing Iran; they are speed-running it. Reports indicate the U.S. military is using advanced Artificial Intelligence, specifically Anthropic’s "Claude" model, to select targets faster than human beings can actually think. You heard that right. We have outsourced the kill chain to a chatbot. General George Marshall meticulously planned the reconstruction of Europe; Secretary Pete Hegseth is apparently letting a large language model plan the deconstruction of the Middle East.

They call it "decision compression." I call it moral bankruptcy on autopilot.

And the results? Predictably catastrophic. We aren’t just hitting "bad guys." We are hitting everything. Debris from an Iranian missile, intercepted by our "perfect" defense systems, just rained down on Turkey today. That’s a NATO ally, folks. We are literally dropping the garbage of our war onto the heads of the people we are sworn to protect.

Meanwhile, the butcher’s bill has been updated. Four American soldiers were killed in a drone strike in Kuwait. Four families are getting the worst phone call of their lives tonight. And in Iran, the death toll has surged past 1,000. Over 180 of them were children. I wonder if the AI "hallucinated" that those kids were a threat, or if it just crunched the numbers and decided their lives were a rounding error.

But don't worry, the incompetence isn't limited to our foreign policy. It’s thriving right here at home.

While our troops are ducking drones in the Gulf, we find out that South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, now a key player in our homeland security apparatus, lied to Congress about her top aide’s involvement in government contracts. A ProPublica investigation dropped today proving she misled the Senate. It is the classic Washington two-step: send the poor kids to fight the war, while the connected kids grift the contracts.

And look at the Democratic Party in California. They are so busy fighting a circular firing squad in the governor’s raceignoring their own party’s desperate pleas to consolidate, that they are risking a total lockout in November. It is a level of political malpractice that would make the Whig Party blush.

We are being led by a coalition of the corrupt, the incompetent, and the artificial. We have a President threatening to cut trade ties with Spain because they won't let us use their bases to launch more AI-selected missiles. We have a DHS mired in cronyism. And we have a defense strategy that treats war like a video game where the NPCs don't matter.

So go ahead, celebrate the stock market bump. But know this: The machine is running the show now. And it doesn't have a conscience.
